Need help - Pissed off.

So, I shouldn't be pissed off --- Especially for my 1st post but I just wanna RIDE this bike !!!

I have ben emailing this guy that is selling and R3, about 80 miles away... and its a niche bike and winter is upon us...
So I lowballed him hard.. and said if u ever really wanna sell it - ill bring a trailer down.

He called me last week and I brought the trailer. So I guess the original owner was his buddy. and his buddy did nicely modify the bike, custom grips, blue accents everywhere, tidy tail with blue blinkers, shaved front blinkers... iPhone charger, etc...

But then the idiot wanted it "LOUDER" and put on a straight pipe tip.

So he sold it to his buddy.... and his buddy put 280 miles on the bike (1500 total) and decided he didn't like it.
So, I bought it from the buddy. - knowing I would need a slip-on.

So I was anxious to drive the bike so I bought the Akrapovic slip on and it came today... (two day air, cuz I am anxious !!)
Right now the bike is too loud to drive -- i mean LOOOOUUUDDD !!!! Like nasty sounds like a POS loud.

So I get the exhaust today... and watch all the install videos... Doesn't work.

Seems like maybe the 1st guy took off an additional pipe or baffle ??? and the slip on doesn't fit.

also 2nd guy didn't have any old OEM parts. - FML.

Ugh, can someone tell me what I am missing --- and the cost... or am I better off cost wise sending back this slip-on and
just doing a full exhaust ?? Thanks .. in advance ... Hope to ride this one day, (without waking up babies 2 blocks away)

PS -

I think I also may be missing a plastic trim piece that looks (shaped) like a boomerang ??
That may have gone over the old muffler ??

I think the guy cut off the catalytic convertor/resonator chamber.

This is what the stock header looks like. With any brand of slip on it should be reasonably quiet.
If that big chamber is missing he hacked the pipes and you will struggle to make it quiet.

CBRpilot, giff74 and Bash22 like this.

With no muffler but still with the cat, people say it's still reasonably quiet. Something is missing ... even with a slip-on, it's gonna be loud.

Yup - So I just tracked down and talked with the original owner...

and he took it to a "Bike shop" who cut the Cat, and put on the tip for him.

FML - How do i fix this ??

Am I now forced to get a full exhaust ??

There are probably a lot of members here with full exhausts that would sell you their stock header and cat for a decent price. Resale value on those parts is not great due to supply always exceeding demand.

Get the M4 Street Slayer. It doesn't use the cat at all.

****, if you were in the US I would give you my stock exhaust for the cost of shipping. Shipping is going to be a bitch though. That thing is heavy and big.

Thanks guys ---

Im disgusted about this situation... But I did get a good price on the bike, so I really shouldn't complain.
So, Im gonna send back the Akrapovic slip-on... and I just watched about 5 more youtube vids.... on the M4.
So, it looks like "my guy" did his cut about 3" after the o2 sensor... so the m4 uses a cut about 1" before the o2 sensor..
So I went head and ordered the M4, as by the time I buy a stock exhaust, and shipping off someone... or even Ebay, the price is
about the same as the Akrapovic and the new (OEM) and (shipping) to me.

Free shipping on the M4 through Amazon, 2nd day air. (prime)

I really dont like "LOUD, LOUD" bikes - especially my R3, Throaty and grumbly is fine... but not obnoxious...
So I am hoping the M4 won't be too loud, I plan to keep the baffle in. - But nothing will be as loud and as obnoxious as it is now.

Also, the bike has about 1500 miles on it.... do you think the engine may have suffered damage due to the lack of back pressure in that
amount of time ? I can only assume the worst and imagine the modification was probably done round 400 - 500 miles mark.

Aside from that I am looking forward to trying the bike out, Ordered the HID's already and the non passenger rear seat...
I may pick up the clip-ons... idk yet.

I still have my 2007 600 Katana... and I know the power won't compare.... but my Kat is a heavy beast....
