I'll echo that statement. I've ridden different bikes since 1975 and do not have any issues with the R3 transmission.

Mine shifts great as well. Only complaint, sort of, is the throw/play in the shifter assembly. It causes me to miss shifts when I switch over from the BMW with how precise it is in comparison but otherwise, no issues at all.

Have you had someone else try shifting your bike to see if they can feel what you can feel? That would confirm that it is the bike and not you.

That's a good idea.
I think I will let my friend with the FZ-09 ride it for awhile.
See what he thinks about it.

Hey. I know how you feel. I have the same problem. there is 50/50 chance my shift will go wrong. Sometimes I shift in to third and it shows on the dash that it is in third but after 10 sec (ish) it drops back into second. Or after I shift into third or fourth my shift rod becomes loose and I have to drop the throttle to fix the problem. I tried everything mentioned above and it didn't work. It seems that when I ride I concentrate more on shifting rather than on driving the bike. The last hope I have is changing the rearsets and maybe changing it to GP shifting as I think it has something to do with my big foot (11 size).

Do they make a factory pro shift kit for these? I'm sure it'ld sort out your problems for $150 (or whatever they cost) and 1/2hr labor.
That being said, I have no problems with mine at all, shifts gears with the slightest touch and always at full rev's

Should at least be informative. Maybe even ride his FZ-09 at the same time, see if it's notably better when you're intentionally looking for a problem? Assuming you haven't done this, of course. Who knows, could even be a Yamaha vs. Honda difference, or just a price point build issue. I certainly don't know!
I do know that other than this you seem to have been very positive on the R3 and I'd hate to see that soured!

This is my signature. Woo.

Maybe installing a quickshifter would fix it?? I've never had a bike with one and don't know if it would 100% fix it but I hear people talk about how great it is
