UPDATE:

FZ-09 guy rode my R3 tonight.
No problems. Everything was normal.
Then I rode it.
One false-neutral between 1st and 2nd, but other than that, it did fine.

SO.... in conclusion:
Either it's ME.... or..... my R3 is MOODY!
Sometimes it is in a bad mood. Sometimes it cooperates with me.
I guess I need to pet it more, and talk nice to it.

It's obviously female and feels put out by your CBR love

Really? Dang...my dealer WANTED me to jump on an R6 to compare. They have demo models of some (but not all) and have a big demo day coming up. Is it just your dealer?

Also...I've got 4 bikes here (GS550, Vstar 650, Vstar 250, and the R3)....and I've ridden scads of bikes in my time. Mine and a lot of other Suzuki's I've ridden shifts like a russian built tractor...KaCHUNK...KaCHUNK. All the Yamaha's are like butter compared (R3 included).

At first I had some problems...1-2 neutral shifts....not getting it to go into 1st after going into neutral at a light...but after another 300 miles these have mostly gone away. I still get 1-2 neutrals but that's my fault (lazy foot)

That's a mistake. The R3 doesn't fill any voids (real or imagined), in the power department, left behind by the CBR. To sum it up, same $hit, different characteristics. I'd argue that the CBR's "wimpy" motor is even better suited for the street - you don't have to rev it to the moon to get any power.

On another note, after I changed the $hitty stock gear shifter (eBay chinese part), my shifts have been pretty smooth. However, it's not the smoothest shifting bike by a longshot. It works, but I'm not too thrilled about it.

"Oh, what a day... what a lovely day!"

To each their own I guess. I had the opportunity to test drive a CBR 300R at a motorcycle show. I drove it right after I tried out the R3, and the difference was night and day for me. The Yamaha felt smooth as butter, and the Honda felt clunky as ****. I stalled out several times on the Honda because the clutch seemed more picky for me than the Yamaha.

I was headed to my buddies work on my FZ6, with the intention of looking at some bike options out there. Consignent selling my FZ6 had been discussed before. On the way there I got stuck in some traffic (not the first time its happened) and apparently the bike decided that it no longer needed to run and wouldnt even crank over. After 45 minutes on the side of the highway a gentleman stopped and gave me a push start. After deciding to just hang onto the FZ6 and get rid of a different bike it has not given me any issues. I go with the "she is pissed at me and wants me to pay for my actions".

I drove to another state to buy my R3.
I love a "big demo day". I have to go out-of-town and book a hotel room.

My local dealer is CRAP. I try to avoid that place whenever possible.
The owners get greedy, and eventually they start shafting people.
The place gets a reputation. The locals avoid it.
But sadly, we have two military bases here, so the place stays in-business because they screw the military personnel.
So dis-honorable. I hate it.

The entire "powersports industry" needs a total dealer re-structuring.
The profit-margin needs to come out of the hands of the franchise owners, and it needs to be SET by the manufacturers. The way it is now, it's a sucker based system. Dealers fish for suckers, and stick it to them if they think they can get away with it. How ridiculous.
