Satos Installed

Got the Satos installed. That was painful. The bolts to get the MC off were NOT coming off. I tried a longer socket to get more leverage, but the metal of the hex bit I used was I think soft and it stripped a bit. I used another bit and an impact wrench and it finally came right out. The second bolt, however, would. not. come. out. The impact driver stripped it to **** and back and after trying a few things I ended up using my bolt extractor. After 2-3 tries of that I used a slight bigger one and that bolt finally came out. What kind of crazed Japanese robot put that on?!

Then I tried to piece together what went where from the images to get everything else put together on the right side. That took a while, but at least it wasn't problematic like those bolts. I don't generally like how the brake switch spring just loops around a bolt. It could totally slip off if there's ever any slack. That alone made me question whether I was doing it right, but every picture I could find confirmed this so I shrugged and put it on that way.

On the left side... well that took about 10 minutes and was no problem at all :-P I left it in standard shift for the time being until I put on my QS.

It took so long I never got to my radiator guard. So that's my job for tonight.

Keep an eye on that rear brake line...it looks kinked in the picture. If you left the line the stock length and have the reservoir mounted in the stock location, then the rear brake might not be very happy. With the rear wheel off the ground press and then release the brake lever a few times, then check to see how much drag you have in your rear brake (crimped line can keep brake pressure from being released when the pedal is released. It's best to shorten that brake line.

Looks like the track prep is coming along nicely.

Yeah, I saw your note in your thread about the brake line, but it's actually not kinked and I played with the rear brake for a while to make sure it was fully functional. Even the pics on the Sato site look like that.

What I'm more worried about is that if I twist my foot to get my knee out, my heel wants to land right on the reservoir. Hmm...

LOL, the same one that installed the oil filter...
I had the brake line kink too with my Arashis. I remedied it by flipping the banjo fitting atop the MC and moving it inboard of the rearward retaining tab. It made the line flow quite a bit smoother.

Cox Radiator Guard Installed

Tonight's tinkering was the radiator guard. It took me far longer to get one side of the fairings off to get better access than it did to install the guard.

Today I also received my Woodcraft clip ons and my Pit Bull trailer restraint pins (though the pins are not like the ones for my S1000RR so I'm puzzled how they will work). The clip ons have a 1" rise, but I think I'm going to need 1.5. Fortunately I can just order a larger riser from Woodcraft (which I just did).

More Parts!

Today FedEx was generous. I thought it would all come in a giant box, but no, they stuffed everything into the Yoshi box.

Today I received:
  • Yoshimura Exhaust (CF)
  • Stomp Grips
  • Yoshimura spools
  • Spiegler brake lines

I also managed to have some time to throw on the rear brake line. Remember, it's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look

I'll do the front brake line and the stomp grips soon. The exhaust will wait until just before it heads to dyno. Still another couple of weeks, methinks.

I'm expecting Power Commander-a-palooza to arrive tomorrow.
