Front end noise that changes with speed?

I've noticed at lower speeds (10-20 km/h) the front end makes a rhythmic noise. Hard to describe, but kind of like a rhythmic howl. The faster I go the noise increases but goes away at any speeds over 50 km/h. It's strictly a noise for now as far as I can tell. I can't feel any sort of vibration that would correspond to the noise. I checked the tire over and couldn't see anything wrong with it. Any ideas?

I noticed something like that after having my 600 mile service done. Was yours around the same time?
No, its been since new. Thought it would go away after I rode for a bit but I have about 500 km on it so far.
Can you make a video without killing yourself?
Just by chance is it only on when on throttle? I didn't notice the air intake noise until after I really started to lean on the throttle. It seems to be more on the left side than the right. Maybe it's just my crazy ears.

I havn't really noticed. It's fairly faint, I'll have to pay closer attention on the next ride. Feel wise I cant sense anything wrong. At first I thought I had a bad front tire, but its as smooth as smooth can be up to at least 110+ km/h
A rythmic howl is a good description.. I have it with mine as well... one month old .. actually rode the 'demo' bike and it had it as well but a bit less noisy..
Ok good, so im not crazy any ideas as to what it might be? My dealer is pretty far for me or I would just take it in. Just not sure if its just how the bike is.

I agree. It could likely just be your intake sucking air. That noise was very noticeable on my '02 R6. Try to notice if it only happens when you twist hard on the throttle.
Sorry.. I should have been more detailed in my post .. It is quite noticeable at around 4500-5000 rpm in 3,4,5 gear.. however it disappears when I open the throttle or back off..Am wondering if its a sort of 'harmonic' thing?? Boy this little bike has some grin factor though... Cheers Wal Brisbane Australia..
gday Genesis92... I have discovered the reason for the noise with my bike... a rubber grommet is missing where the plastic fuel tank cover attaches to the bike. There is a plug on each side of the cover.. I imagine that this would allow the cover to vibrate and amplify any sounds.. I hope that this makes sense and helps you with your issue.. Cheers Wal Bne Aus..

Thanks ill have to check that out. You are saying that one side has one and one doesnt? Like the factory didnt put one in? Do you have a pic of it?
gday mate.. That's right.. the metal fuel tank has a mount for the plastic tank cover on each side near the top.. a rubber grommet was missing on one side.. I also noticed that another rubber mount wasn't fitted properly where the plastic cover sits at the back of the tank.. I have sorted both out and the noise has subsided noticeably.. I would talk to your dealer about this... I was told at my bike shop that it is a warranty issue... even for a simple rubber grommet.. Cheers Wal
I know this is kinda old, but I have this same sound I think, gears 1-4 around 5k rpm. Did you have any luck with the grommet genesis? or is it still an issue?
Ive ridden other r3's since and it seems to be the nature of the beast. They all do it. Its just the sound of these engines. Kind of like the sound of a space ship taking off that they use in the movies. Im not concerned about it anymore.
thanks for the quick reply, I was thinking the same thing..was just weird that it was right at 5k rpm i thought. I noticed it riding it home from the dealership, but I feel a little better knowing its not just mine =]
I've noticed the same thing. I don't think it's a problem, just the engine/intake. Sounds kind of cool to me :)
My noise is also around 5000 rpm. I don't think it's wind. Sounds more connected to the engine/transmission. To me it does not sound cool. In fact, if this wasn't so common with this bike, I'd take it back to the dealer for a check up.
Same issue. Less than a month old and only at 297 miles. As much as I'd love to just write it off for being the nature of the bike, my paranoia is pushing me to get it checked. What bothers me the most is that it does not go away when I open the throttle more. It only goes away when I close it or when I squeeze the clutch. I'll report in as soon as I get it back from the dealer. I'm due for a free inspection anyway.
curious to see what the dealer says, i've been getting used to it. but still kinda bugs me
