How long do you keep your helmet before replacing

Hi all,

I’m currently looking for a new helmet - specifically the Shoei RF-1400. I noticed that the manufacturers recommend replacing helmets every 3 years. That’s a lot of money for 3 years!

What to members of this site do? How often do you replace your helmets?

Thanks!

5 - 6 years is the max age depending on race series rules. But more accurately, until I crash.

Depending on where it is stored, they cant imagine where it has been laying around so they make the worst indication.

I guess if you store it correctly, A Shoei helmet should go 10 years before replacement.

5 years. My liner kind of made the choice as it made it's last loop around the washing machine last weekend! The foam has turned to dust.

I normally wear a balaclava so I don't need to wash it.
