So I torqued down the oil filter to spec this time rather than the 3/4 turn after hand tight, and it is leaking oil but only about 1/4th of a drop a day and I have to get the towel paper under the oil filter lip for it.

is it fine to leave or should I back it off and check the seal and go back to the hand tight and/4 turn method

What type filter wrench were you using to torqued down? On a K&M oil filter, the welded-on nut is for removal only. If it's used for installation, the weld can crack and cause a leak.

The torque isn't that high as per manual, I doubt the weld can crack but regardless if there is a nut or not it can be hand tightened. It is recommended to apply oil on the rubber seal of the filter prior to installation. If it hasn't been done or if not hand tightened hard enough, it could probably be the cause of the leak.

Ignoring torque. What's the exact code of the air filter you used? If it's a K&N I believe is should be YA-3215. Also did you make sure the old filter's seal was removed, as sometimes they can stick to the bike.
air filter? oil filter is 204, and yes old seal was removed, i always clean the mating surface for oil drain bolt and filter

No. Not ignoring torque. It could be dead on for all I know. Experience has taught me not to overtighten. Also, im running a wix oil filter. It doesnt have a torque nut. Hand tight initially, and a snug up after a 1000 miles or so has served me well.
