these look awesome. but advantages over HID? no ballast install straight plug and play? besides having to do a little DIY for the dust caps. It is definitely something this bike is lacking some decent lights. I don't want HID's as its just more things to worry about I think.
We've got dust covers, that work great....... when the bulb is perfectly centered in the hole.
Which the LEFT bulb is....... Unfortunately, the Right side is not centered from the Factory.
So, we actually just put a few strips of electrical tape to keep out any unwanted debris. We've been running these now for 6 months.

Well I guess that's good news. The primary reason I was considering LED bulbs was for the high beam bulb since HID ballasts are not stable when being flashed and take a second to warm up. I guess I could always pick up a HID bulb for my low beam and a LED for my high beam.
The pattern on the LEDs appears to be pretty grim. Not just the lack of a sharp upper cutoff, but also very poor density control throughout the pattern.
You kinda need a projector designed for the correct emitter. Sure, its expensive, but so is a ticket.
It cost $400 to upgrade my Volvo 780 to legal HIDs, its probably going to cost something like that to get the right lights on the R3. That will give high-low on both lights with a legal pattern and the ability to flash high beams at will with no warm up.
And LED DRLs with switchback for turn signals.
The Anunaki HID assembly is $399 I think, and the DDM conversion looks like it would cost maybe $250 plus labor to get the same result??
That said, its great to see people working to get us better lighting!! I would love to see a quality LED kit that generated a really good pattern. Sure, it would cost more but it would be worth it (to me at least).
Just curious about this setup as I was looking at your website and about to order a BMC filter. Do they come with setup instructions? How do you get both lights on at the same time? I'd be willing to fabricate my own dust caps out of the stock ones so I'm not too worried about that part but I want to understand what I might be getting into first.
How much is the full kit? Does it retain high beam functionality for both bulbs?

Hello, I really have a disdain for these LED aftermarket lights and LED lights on cars in general as used for headlights. LEDs just do not have the focusing potential as halogen or HID headlights do when used in headlights. LEDs provide a great amount of flood on headlights, however, flood is not something that you would want on a car. On a car you want throw, distance lighting. Throw is important because you want to see what is far in front of you to react.
I don't know... They look good and you already spent money on these. But if it were me I would just put some Philips Xtreme Vision plus and call it a day. Or get some proper HID lights.
This is what I did. After chatting with the nice folks at Hard Racing, I determined that for my needs the HID kit would fit the bill properly for me. So far, very happy with the setup! Need to try a bit of night riding to see how it is but I'm sure it will be much better than stock.
How much did the HID kit cost you? Can you post some pics or videos to show us your HID set up? I just went out and bought some Philips X-Treme Vision +100% H7 bulbs which are the best halogen bulbs that you can buy. I have yet to install them.
As far as the extended length on the LED bulb, couldn't you just make a hole in the dust cap (diameter of the fan housing) and then the fan would protrude through the dust cap and get all the air it needed? Seems like whatever you do, you need to bring fresh air into the housing to cool things off.
Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm a little lost. @HardRacing, or anyone else:
from [ ... store.hardracing.com/cart.php?target=product&category_id=&product_id=31361&xid=MbsqzC76HZuhlp4hHyE76ACaHWvYM7q7#product-details-tab-specification] I see that the R3 can get this headlight unit thing going on. What exactly does plug n play mean in this respect?
