LED Turn Signal Flasher Blinking Problem

13347 Views 26 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Muhammad Zahid
Hi guys.

Earlier today I changed my turn signal's bulb into LED bulb and also changed my RELAY to an electronic relay.

Now the problem is, when I turn the turn signal on, they don't blink like (on-off blink). The blink is something like Hi and Low motion blinks.

I'm not sure if it is designed that way lol or I did something wrong.

Help :p

If its harmless then im fine with it, it looks nice actually LOL!

Technically harmless.
It's hyper flashing since the electrical draw of the les is so low, your relay is reading it as a dead bulb and the computer hyper flashes it to make you aware.

You can either get a resistor or a new relay. Tst industries has a good relay. (Not sponsored by them in any way.)

This helped me understand the issue:

So its just my Flasher Relay ^_^.. Later I'll change it and I'll update this post. Thanks a lot!!
I'm having a different issue but didn't want to start another post about it. So I'm running LED front signals, LED middle light with TST harness and TST relay. My signals were working perfectly fine until i installed the rear LED signals and LED license plate light. Now my front signals don't work. I know it's not a fuse or the signals because I can plug the front signals into the other plug (signal stays on) of the TST harness. Will I need to add resistors to the rear? I thought the relay should have taken care of it but I tried adjusting it as well. Not a big fan of electrical stuff, if someone could help chime in.

I'm an IT and mechnically inclined and a decent mechanic, but like you not a fan of electrical stuff. I am trying to learn though. I have my LED signals to do, my corpio alarm, and my PC5 to install hopefully this week.

Anyway, for you, I don't think you want to use the resistors in conjunction with the relay. It's either resistors or relay I believe. I would remove the resistors, use the relay and see what happens. That should work.

R3_808, just read this at the TST site. Give it a read.

Do I need a relay?
Thanks for the comments. I'm actually not using any resistors on my setup. So before when my setup was working:

Headlight: Stock (works)
Center light: LED (works)
Front Signals: LED w/TST plug adapters (red/black & black/yellow)(works)
Rear Signals: Stock (works)
License Plate light: Stock (works)
TST relay (works)

Now

Headlight: Stock (works)
Center light: LED (works)
Front Signals: LED w/TST plug adapters (red/black & black/yellow)(doesn't work)
Rear Signals: LED w/yamaha plug adapters (works)
License Plate light: LED (works)
TST relay (hyperflash adjustment works)

I thought the relay should have corrected all LED? Looks like the only thing I've changed was the rear signals to LED and the license plate light. If I run a resistor to those would it run my setup like before or would this overload my bike?

I PM'd the TST agent, and he told me you two got in touch. So I am guessing you're G2G?

Thanks for taking the initiative to do that! I'm still having the issue and still hoping for their assistance. One thing I did notice while I was riding the other day though is that my signal light on my gauges stays on now. I'm pretty sure it's suppose to only come on when the signals are flashing but it stays on when my signals are off and flashes on and off when I signal. I looked at the users manual and didn't say anything about the light staying on. I'm wondering if all of the LEDs in my setup are getting enough current in my system... I'm planning to plug in my old signals to see what would happen if everything goes back to normal. I have some tst flush signals to see if those will work as well. I really don't want to get rid of this setup but I need my signals to work...

Don't mean to bump an old thread but I'm now having the same issue. I had TST flush mounts with harness and relay, along with license plate light and all was well. I just installed OEM Yamaha turn signals in the rear (without resistors) and my system is out of whack. Hope I didn't short a system when testing wire connections to determine correct arrangement for left and right. Now, my front blinkers both come on at the same time regardless of which I intend to use. When the bike is running, there is a constant low draw on all turn signal lights (rear signals are now faintly constant on). The running front signals are dimmer than usual now too. Rear blinkers signal correctly, minus the constant low light. Dash signal lights up very dimly as soon as I start the bike. Somethinf is wrong. Just can't figure what.

Did you solve your issue?
Now, my front blinkers both come on at the same time regardless of which I intend to use.
It's hard to troubleshoot as I cannot use a meter and go over your connections to make sure you didn't miss something. I will say that your statement above suggests that you may have crossed something over from left to right somewhere in your setup. I did this intentionally with a switch to make 4 way flashers.

These two threads I started have schematics.

The second thread actually shows how I made both sides flash together intentionally for make 4 way flasher lights. The colors in my schematics of the OEM wire colors of the R3 are correct. The TST harness have been confirmed to be shipped with different colors, so you must plug them into the bike and write down which bike color goes to which harness color and keep them correct during your install.

I suggest unplugging your rears and starting over. Make sure everything is working properly again with the rears disconnected. Get a multi-meter, set it for DCV, find a frame ground and confirm your pulsing +12V for left and right.

Left rear +12V pulsing (switched from relay) is Chocolate (Brown)
Right rear +12V pulsing (switched from relay) is Green
Both blacks are ground.

Hope this helps!

I'm going to redo all the wiring for both front and rear turn signals. I did notice, however, that even with the rear turn lights disconnected, my dash would keep that faint blinking on, without ever touching the turn signal and even after cancelling. Makes me think there's a problem with the ground as there appears to be a current upon ignition of the motor. Will check back later to see if rewiring helped at all.
Thanks Kirk. Rears were fine but my wiring for the flush was wrong and were throwing the whole system off. Went to my local surplus electronics store, spent $1.57 on a couple resistors and some diodes, and wired everything according to your running light thread. Everything works perfectly. Thank you for taking the time to write that up.

Awesome!! Glad to help. :) Thanks for the feedback.

Hi. Has anyone seen this video. If so, does anyone know how can I wire up my r3 taillights to function like this.. I do have that intergrated taillight.

Instead of thread-jacking 3-4 threads with the same question, start a dedicated thread, with a pic of the wiring, and draw a diagram. People need something to work with. I already gave you a major hint about the wiring, but if that wasn't enough, we need details.

If its harmless then im fine with it, it looks nice actually LOL!

I am really sorry to revive this really old post but I am desperate... I am having the same issue..

Signal gauge on all the time and both blinkers turn on at the same time.. One brighter than the other depending on which one I activated...

The rear taillight turn on and off as normal... Including the rear signals...

I am using the TST flushmounts halo signals and taillight... Including the TST Relay.....

Please help... :(
Re-install old relay to eliminate any trouble there.

Disconnect one front blinker (perhaps even plug in the original light for confirmation).

Sort out the wiring (3 wires) on the other side (you've probably swapped the running and blinker wires?)

Now disconnect that one, and sort out the wiring on the remaining side.

Reconnect so both are active and test.

Re-install TST flasher if you want -- mine had an annoying delay, so I opted for the hyper flash plus I felt it was more visible like that anyway.
Thanks... Will try with the OEM Relay...

Because I wrote the post yesterday I forgot to mention other facts...

The TST flush mounts, taillight and relay was installed at the same time and last for a month working perfectly... Halo in the flushmounts was on all the time and turning off only when the specific side of the blinker was working... Yesterday I tried disconnecting the halo to see if the signal turn on independently and the issue persist..

I tried with one OEM signal and one flushmount signal and they worked... I test it in both sides...

All the tests using the TST Relay....

This problem is getting me a constant headache... :(
