Whoever pimp it made it worse in my opinion. Maybe I don't care too much about appearence vs performance.

On the plus side its just little detail, from a distance it won't be too bad, but like you I could care less for this stuff. Most of what I care about are things that improve the riding experience.

I think there are plenty of people out there who care more about what their bike looks like than what it rides like. As long as the ride is good, they don't care much for performance parts. It just becomes an issue of making the bike look good so that you can ride around in style.

I'm down for a bit of both performance and style.

Yeah there are those folks which is fine.
Some just want to ride around without really pushing it much.
