Back in July of Last year Yamaha showed off a new crossplane parallel twin that mimics the crossplane principles of the R1's engine. They revealed at the time that they would be developing an entire lineup of engines around crossplane cranks.
Just imagine the benefits...

A couple of the Indonesian blogs have been speculating about this lately, so I'm just wondering if this might in fact have some merit to it...On a twin, the same idea surely relates to a 270-degree crankshaft, imitating the power delivery of a 90-degree V-twin. That’s the arrangement Yamaha already uses on the TDM900 and the Super Tenere parallel twins, so this new design isn’t likely to be as ground-breaking.
