You Bet!! just 20 mi. down the road was the annual motorcycle show in Long Beach Ca. and... I'm happy to report the R3 was in attendance much to my pleasure!! The blue and silver is absolutely stunning in person; looks like it should be a $250 upgrade (hope the wrong people don't see this) but I'll go for the red because I'm sure those will be in abundance! (and I like red)
Seating is outstanding as my 5'11" legs bend about 20 degrees at my knees with my feet flat on the ground. It feels very light (368# wet) and I can't wait to get it on a windy back road!
The KTM was there; not my cup of tea at all! Sorry for the "crummy pics;" guess they are better than nothing!

My bad, yea that's the duke in the last pic.
@Rev Limiter Was the RC390 there?

I'm really dying to see a comparison between the R3 and the RC390. We'll have to wait until the R3 comes out before we see comparisons between the bikes. I'm was really curious if Rev Limiter saw the RC390 in there, if so, did you sit on it? and what did you think of it in comparison to the R3?.. IF it was there of course...

My problem with the RC390 is not related to performance, but to the taller seat at 32.3 inches vs. 30.7 with the R3. I'm just under 5 ft.7in. Then there is the thumper vs. inline 2 difference. That advantage has goes to the inline 2 for me. Also no KTM dealers within 60 miles. Those are the reasons I won't be in the market for the RC390. If I were a couple inches taller, I would definitely consider it. The RC390 specs indicate it will be 20+ lbs. lighter than the R3 which is a definite plus for me. Oh well, the R3 is still a light bike, lightest of the matchup with Ninja 300 and CBR300R.

AJ, I'm 5'7 as well and I sat on the RC390 about a week ago. It was no problem at all. Give it a try if you can (I understand this may be a problem since there's no dealer close to you, but just in case you get a chance - try it). And it may be an option to have it lowered a bit for you.
But yes, the R3 will be significantly lower, that's for sure.

Personally, I'm leaning towards the R3 at the moment mainly because I'm not 100% sure about the build-quality of the RC390. The reviews I read were positive all in all, but some of them said that the quality of the RC (which is built in India) was just "OK" (as opposed to "good") in some areas, and not fully on par with the big KTMs (which are not build in India).
So that irked me a bit.
On the other hand, I'm fully aware that opinions differ depending on who you ask, so I'm taking that with a grain of salt.

Wow that blue/silver looks stunning in this photo !! Just curious, what didnt you like about the rc390?
The seat causes me to feel like I'm sliding forward and the bars are way to close to my body when all is said and done. The R3 is an absolute picture of comfort in every respect. Everything is right where it should be. (gauges, switches etc.) Hope this helps!

Don't let seat height put you off. I'm only 5'5" and my CRF250LD has a seat height of 34.7 inches! :) .

As much as I love its shapes, I can't live with that small side-fairings.:crying:

Look at it, it just looks like a boomerang. This would have been much much better:

I cannot choose between the less powerful N300 and the R3 because of that fairing. I have to see it in real life. In the meantime, I'm going to sue Yamaha for not finishing such a great product...
