Anyone with a Ram mount that can speak to the reliability? I'm talking quality of the parts and most importantly do you trust it with your phone. How secure is the grip?

Thanks

RAM Mount is *the* name in mounts. I guess you are asking specifically about the funky spring-loaded grip phone holders. Some people like them, other have reported difficulty. I use a RAM mount for my gps, it's the roller/clip one (can't fall out ever).

I have wondered too. Haven't pulled the trigger on one yet, but was going to. Here in NYC, we have bomb crater pot holes and endless woop-dee-doos from heavy trucks braking and stoping in sun baked asphalt. I wonder if a serious enough jolt could spring it loose from the RAM mount. I'd cry if my iPhone6S flew out. I have already paid full price for 2 of them. Trying to avoid doing that again....EVER.

if for phone then it will most likely be the x grip whatever with the rubber band thing that supports it from sliding out now

If you're worried about road conditions popping the phone loose, just pick up a tether. It goes behind the mount and wraps around the edges of the phone. it's going nowhere if mounted with one one of these things.

Works great, but make sure you also use the rubber tether with the phone mount.
extra peace of mind.

it's a pretty useful add-on for versatility.
And works much better then that stupid tank bag, which over heats the heck out of the phone and is hard to see safely while rolling.

Just have to figure which mount you want.

Yeah, the tether came with the universal kit I bought. Works awesome. Right now I have it mounted on the handle bar. It's a bit high, but surprisingly doesn't interfere with anything like the windshield. It is nice viewing it up that high but I might do the mount near the top gas tank bolt which is down lower. However, if I add a steering damper, they would conflict.

I have mine mounted on the handlebar as well and wanted mine a little lower and more toward the center of the bike, but the arm didn't have enough flexibility for the angle I wanted.
I picked up another arm section and a double ball adapter and now I'm pretty happy with the placement and my ability to tweak the angle any way I want.

Thanks guys. Pulled the trigger and purchased the mount. Absolutely loving it so far. The quality is beyond what I expected. My iPhone 6s fits perfectly and snuggly into the X-Grip.

Just installed the U-Bolt Ram Mount on the clutch side, tried to center it as much as possible below the instrument cluster but will need to buy the double ball to get more angle like AesonVirus posted above. Definitely stable for holding larger phones.
