The Reason is because the extra inch forward provides a direct vertical gear shift lift.

Gratz. Those are nice tires. Now for the love of naked monkeys.... will you please get that gigantic hideous looking rear fender off that bike!

Which model replacement rear fender do you recommend?

I just installed the kit from Vagabond Motorsports today. Pretty straight forward, looks great. Just be sure to watch their YouTube video, as the printed instructions as so so at best

Can't go wrong with the Vagabond. I have this one as well. No complaints- easy to install - very slick - well engineered.
Good video for the install as well.

Choose one that has an LED license plate light, or the ability to re-use your stock license plate light. Don't need the cops hassling you because your plate is not lighted when you ride at night.
I chose the Yoshimura kit. It comes with a nice LED plate light. It's a high quality kit with all hardware included. It also allows you to re-use the stock turn-signals. If you want, you can use aftermarket signals, but I just kept my stock ones for now. The stock signals are a bit goofy-looking, but they are highly visible to cagers.

By far the easiest and the most sturdy. All one piece, reuses the stock lighting.

One forum user posted how he added the stock reflectors onto Vagabond fender eliminator. I believe you are in one of the states that has inspections.

I did that one, too. Works great!

Are you able to adjust this particular shifter to where it's noticeably farther from the peg? I find the stock shifter to be too close to the peg. As a result, I almost shift with my mid-foot, instead of my toes. Hope that made sense. Looking to order this particular one from ebay.

I didn't measure before and after but the toe peg does have an adjustment range of something like 3/4"
