So Crazy it Might Just Work?

Hey guys, I have been looking around for awhile for a new exhaust. I can't say anything so far has really caught my attention apart from a few but still I am left undecided. I stumbled across TST Industries website which for the first time I have seen someone sell just the headers. https://tstindustries.com/Arrow-Stainless-Steel-Racing-Headers-2015-Yamaha-YZF-R3.html

I thought this was pretty bad ass and would love to purchase them but.. not pair them with the arrow muffler because I don't really like the look. Am I just stupid or crazy enough to think it might be possible to pair these headers with the Akrapovic GP Slip On? http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/akrapovic-gp-slip-on-exhaust-yamaha-r3-2015

It would probably be deafening loud and need an immediate re-tune..but I thought that would be pretty slick. From the pictures it looks like they could match up pretty well but I know that is not an accurate way to go about this. I do have a few friends who can mig/tig weld so there is a possibility of making this work with some minor modifications.

I want something loud, I am not really a fan of the look of canned exhaust systems apart from the M4 Street slayer and the Yoshimura Stainless Can. The Akrapovic gp looks pretty cool but is basically useless as a slip on in my opinion.

So what do you guys think? Am I stupid crazy or just stupid?

Crazy is me trying to talk my boss into buying the dyes so I can make my own system for my bike :p

I dont see why it wouldnt work. Looks like the header ends right where the stock cat ends so I dont see why the slip on wouldnt fit.

Hey.. I would be your first customer after you make your own of course!

It does look like they would match right up huh? I guess there is only one true way to find out..
Older threads specifically discuss that header and its size in relation to slip on attachment points. Its not going to fit together.

Severe lack of back pressure. It would be VERY loud, and very slow.

Alright, I think I might just go with the Street Slayer then, although I kind of wanted to replace the headers with stainless ones.
AT $400 the street slayer should have a full header or at least an option to add one.

It sucks to have to cut the stock header and not have the option to use it again later.
I know, its upsetting. I mean the other option is the full yosh, which I couldn't go wrong with..
This titanium system with premium welds sure appeals on price.

Not a fan of Yosh. Saw some quality control abominations up close a few times. Chromoly and paper thin carbon.
Wow is that really a full exhaust for $345? Not crazy about it looks but it sounds great and much more appealing than the stock system.

Also your exhaust system looks really good. Is that available in the US?
whoa leo vince for 345 thats a kick ass deal!
Thanks I will message you if I decide to go that route. Are you pretty satisfied with that system?
That Leo Vince looks authentic but be aware that there are A LOT of counterfeit exhausts being sold on eBay and from some Asian sellers.

Yoshimura and Akrapovic are the brands most commonly copied, and the quality of the fakes is really poor....

https://youtu.be/mC_iw4RG700?t=2m51s eBay user Canada72 who sells for Firetong.

Cool thanks for doing that! How long did it take shipping wise to get to your door step?
16 days from payment to doorstep. About 12 days in transit. Most of that time was all customs waiting at both ends.
The Canada72 guy would probably ship faster. Could be here in as quick as 3 days.

The guy in that video will sell you one direct. I bought direct from the company but the guy that hosts that video works with Firetong and will QC yours first before it is shipped all the way to the USA. It will also be cheaper.

Mine sounds different because of Power commander V, and smog block off plate. I have not had it mapped specifically for my setup with BMC filter. Its a bit more sluggish in the low rpms and off the line but shines up high, like you would expect from most exhausts like that. Needs to be tuned, I am using a generic full system map. Runs pretty clean. Ill go shoot a video of mine and post it.

Actually, with exhaust connectors, you can reattach the cut off section of the cat.

Something like this

You just need to find the appropriate size.

Here's something to maybe sway you to the Yoshi camp. Looks great with a red bike...

I guess it could work after all! It was mentioned that I would have literally no back pressure so unfortunately, its probably not a good idea?

I won't argue that it doesn't look and sound good.. although I really like the look of the firetong, almost reminds me of the Ducati Panigale Exhaust. It really cleans up the back of the bike and I dig that ;)

Sounds good to me! Thanks for making that video.

See this. Remove stock exhaust and install this cover. Looks MUCH better than the Firetong kluge job, IMHO. Video link in the post shows it on an R3 with sound.

Hey now.. that's not half bad. Pretty cheap too especially if I wanted to put some money into other mods while I still decide what full exhaust to go with..

How do you go about mounting it?
