Yamaha decided to equip the 2019-2020 (2nd gen R3) with the GPR 300s - a major performance improvement, as the 2015-2018 (1st gen R3) stock Pilot Street were bias-ply.

Stock Tires
Stock tires per generation
  • 2015-2018 (1st Gen R3):
    • Bias-ply
    • Michelin Pilot Street
  • 2019-2020 (2nd Gen R3)
    • Radial
    • Dunlop Sportmax GPR 300

Stock Tire Sizes
For 1st & 2nd gen R3s:
  • Front: 110/70-17 54H
    • The load index of 54 is 467 lbs. (211.8 kg)
    • The speed rating H is 130 mph (209 kmh)
  • Rear: 140/70-17 66H
    • The load index of 66 is 661 lbs. (299 kg)
    • The speed rating of H is 130 mph (209 kmh)

Tire Pressure
Manufacturer specs tire pressures:
  • Front: 29 psi
  • Rear: 36 psi

Goodwill
Sell (or recycle) tires
  • Older than five years
  • Visible rotting (especially sidewall cracks)
  • Tread is flush with or lower than the DOT tread wear indicators

Storage
Properly store your tires after you :
  • Give them a rejuvinating bath using warm car wash soap (do not use harsh detergents like dish soap)
  • Do not use tire shine or dressings (these are chemicals used as aesthetic makeup)
  • In a black trash bag
  • Out of direct sunlight
  • Off the ground (plywood surface, shelf, cabinet, etc.)
  • Dry environment (no moisture)
