Two up riding

I know most would not buy the R3 to haul a passenger around, but I found this interesting. Guy takes his gal on a demo ride on a R3. I thought the bike did pretty well considering the extra weight.

****, thats right down the street from me haha! North County San Diego!
I take pillions from time to time the bike handles it fine doing the speed limit and then some, so the R3 is quite a capable bike however I don't enjoy taking pillions but that not to do with the bike thats just me generally not enjoying having a passenger
I've taken my girl's R3 around with her riding pillion. It isn't bad, but our combined weight is only 260. But alas, I have a personal distaste for 2 up riding on sportbikes. Upright and handlebars (no clip ons) or nothing.
I guess I'll be the oddball. I kinda like riding two up. Granted, with the girlfriend on the back we're only like 230lbs-ish combined. The bike gets up and goes alright... can still zip around on the highways at 85mph without it struggling. How could anyone not like a pretty lady holding on to you ;-)

My bike is lowered, bars moved down and a little forward, pegs 50mm back and 45 up...
Can someone post a picture of R3 with rider and pillion together from the side and front angles?

Off topic...but what rear sets do you run? Interested in moving my pegs up and back as well.

I happened to have these from the other day. For reference, I'm 5'7" 140 and she is 5'4 120.

I took my wife around the block and I decided this is not for 2 people our size! Over 360 lbs. with me being 215lbs today.
If they insist on getting on the back, doing some wheelies quickly changes their mind.

Wow excellent. Thank you very much for this. :)
Just remember to set the rear suspension to the last setting.

I have ridden with my wife a lot more on this bike than any other, and the bike handle's it just fine. I always start off slow in the beginning, but after a while, I'm back to my old self again and my wife punches me in the ribs when I start riding like if she wasn't there. I'm 180, 6'2" and she's 150, 5'11".

However, if a two up bike is what you're looking for, get a VFR or CBR650F. I found those to be the best for two up IMHO.

@RCR3, you two need to get some real pants.
I machined my own out out of 3/8th aluminum plate.. .I also added some rotation to the pegs to make'em more comfortable for me (bottom bolt of the original peg set is kicked back an addition 15mm (so 65mm rear from original position) ... I'll try to take pictures in the next few days and post a new thread showing what I did... I machined the mounting pads on each side of the plate down a touch over 1/8th so that it doesn't move the pegs OUT a noticeable amount.

I did a two up ride and got semi spirited on pace.... bike did ok, really spongy on suspension with both of us (over 300lbs total), and oem tires did not give me any confidence. Power wise, felt pretty good considering I am used to my liter bike that is pretty good on power in any gear at almost any rpm range.
I've started taking my girlfriend on some shorter rides around the city. This is my first bike, I'm 5'9" 190 and she's 5'6" 110, so I'm not sure exactly how it's supposed to feel. The suspension gets a bit loose and bouncy but the pick up is still there, granted I've only got it up to 40 with her on the back.
this is the first bike I have risen two up on ... Im around 190, gf is at 145-150 , bike seemed to do fine couldn't notice any problems. Did not know if tis is bad for a bike this size , if I need to do something to suspension, seemed to ride excellent on country roads with lots of turns ... any ideas suggestions let me know

About the only thing you can do that doesnt cost money is to increase your rear shock preload a little bit if you ride 2 up. Read your owners manual on how to do it.

I've only managed to take girls on my bike so far and I had the following complaints.

1: Back pain after riding for an hour in traffic
2: Numb butt after a long ride or approx 1.5hours on highway.
3: Inability to hug me properly.
4: Slight difficulty to mount the bike and dismount.
5: No grab rails - are those needed these days?
