Ugly fender? A life saver?

So sadly today I was rear ended at about 25 mph on my new r3, I'm actually writing this is the urgent care waiting area but I feel like I was saved by that ugly fender, it took almost all the damage and bike took almost none, just the fender. However the **** unlicensed teen that hit me backed up his car without telling me while I was speaking to police and it ended up dropping my bike bending my gear shifter my indicator lights and breaking off some of the clutch lever and the footpeg while dropping my helmet from the bike. Insurance is covering me well but ugh I'm so mad guys I should be grateful I'm ok just some back pain at the moment but i was able to ride bike to a friend's house nearby and now I wait for the appraiser to take a look. That ugly fender can sure Take a hit

Glad you are okay.
Yeah, get ALL the damage documented. Helmet, everything. When your bike fell over, that's just MORE money the insurance company will have to pay you.
Safe or not, I rode my bike only 2 days before that sucker came OFF my bike! And it's NOT going back on!
Idiot!

That's my greatest fear. You can for the most part avoid lane changers that don't see you, but not really much you can do about an idiot looking down at their phone. I'd bet money. Glad you're alive, best of luck on the repair and hopefully that idiot never gets his car out of the impound.

Randy
Hope your 100% Acvdc...traffic lights is where I’m most anxious because many ‘drivers’ don’t think about the responsibility that goes with operating a 4000lbs. vehicle.

Sounds like you want that stock fender back on your R3…just have the dealer call you before they put a new on and see what you think about your R3 with that tight clean profile…just saying.

Oh I most definitley changing that fender lol I'd much rather have it eliminated in just amazed it took the hit they way it did, this bike is def well built, I am very happy to be ok, but I am just so mad, and when this kids parents got there they told me no way I was hurt and that the damage was minimal, I informed them that I have a motorcycle and I was just got by a full size SUV who are you to talk about injuries I hope there insurance skyrockets

It's no wonder that kid turned out to be an idiot.

#1 . Glad you're OK.

#2 . 2nd rito's "Idiot parents/Idiot kid" comment. They can buy you a new bike and consider their weaselly aye-double-esses lucky.

#3 . I left my ugly fender on too, but only because it presents the lighting more effectively to traffic behind me. Not in my wildest imagination have I considered it any kind of impact absorbing device. Wow.
I like my ugly fender, its easy to take off and on.
I would double check that the threads on your tail subframe (where your fender screws go in) arent damaged. But yes its quite fortunate you turned out fine, getting rear ended on a bike is nightmarish.
Glad you are ok. if I understand correctly you were stationary and rear ended? How did you hurt your back? I'm guessing he hit you hard enough to just twerk your back?
I'm just checking-in...did the deputies give the "Idiot-Teen" a ticket?

I commend you on not kicking his ass; only because the deputies would charge you with assault!!!

Thus, far I anticipate drivers are trying to kill me and ride accordingly. Every time I look at the photo...a little rage creeps up in me. Keep us posted!!!

Ride SAFE!!!

Lol no it's actually my initials.

And when he hit me debri from his SUV cand flying into my back, I can only describe it as a baseball being thrown at me so damage is minimal just some light bruising at the moment thankfully, also I had my jacket on and my foam insert it comes with so the gear probably helped tremendously, I can only imagine what it woulda felt like in a t-shirt.

I'm am extremely grateful it wasn't worse, now I just have to decide if I should fender eliminate or keep it lol I'm torn now since that fender probably saved me a lot of damage.

Be safe out there everyone ! I'm other news my wife's gramps was just hit by a teen driver this week as well, he was also rear ended because teen didn't want to stop for an ambulance while everyone was slowing down, hopefully this isn't a trend for new drivers! Though it's probably always been this way.

Also yes I was told he received a driving without a license ticket, and it was close to being a brawl in the street the kid was just so disrespectful, all he cared about was me telling insurance his mom was driving so he wouldn't get blamed cuz he didn't have a lic. When I told him imma let the cops deal with it he began throwing out insults and then PD had just been driving by and stopped, it definitely coulda been worse. This is my first accident ever but if a majority of people are like this after an accident i am staying home lol JKJK but still I don't see how people can disregard that they just possibly hurt someone and only care about what happens to there record.
Glad your ok mate.Over here if you havn't got a licence insurance is void hope that's not the case on your side of the pond.
Glad you're ok man, scary stuff.

You can get coverage for uninsured motorist here (I got it). So if a similar situation to this were to happen your insurance company would cover you up to the amount of coverage you pay for, then essentially go after the family in court for assets they owe.

Yup same thing over here,i've got fully comprehensive ins with protected no claims bonas so that would pay out if the other party had no ins but a lot of people don't pay that little extra to protect their no claims bonus and therefor
would lose their excess and the following years ins would be dearer.
Yes, the tail fender is unsightly but it is made to be functional. I wrote in a different thread recently about saying your back and back of the bike from mud and rain!!

I have a vagabond kit which is nice but when I rode in the rain recently my entire back and the bike was covered in road crap! I am certain the factory fender would've caught 99% of the grime.
