Weird after oil change or maybe normal....

So after shopping out prices at my local shops I decided to do my own oil change at 656 miles. This is the first oil change for the bike and as a new owner I went overboard and bought Motul synthetic at 20 bucks a liter. I figured, might as well put in the good stuff so that I may keep the bike for the length of its life. Before the oil change I had never gone more than 7k rpm. The bike was and is babied due to it being my first. After the oil change I decided to give it a good push and take it on the interstate and got it up to 93mph and 11k rpm. Weather was roughly 87 degrees. When I arrived home I parked the bike and tried to turn it back on and it hesitated and wouldn't start without giving it some throttle. When the bike did start, the RPMs would fluctuate pretty hard for 5 seconds and then it would normalize. However, after letting it cool down for about an hour it never had this problem again. Did I ride it too hard? Is this an issue smaller bikes have since they need to work harder for those speeds? Additionally, I sprung for the synthetic due to its ability to handle the high RPMS, was I wrong in my choosing?

I have also noticed that if I stall the bike, it can be really difficult to start again in the next 20 seconds or so, experiencing exactly what you described, after that its no problem (this was while the bike was cold). But I wouldn't worry too much about it, its probably fine, and seems like you chose some quality oil.
As long as you've got enough oil and a working filter, you haven't done anything to put the bike's engine in danger. The momentary starting issue isn't related to your oil / rpm story.

My FZ6R always sprung to life the very instant I touched the starter button, but the R3 sometimes doesn't catch for several turns. *shrug*
It seems to be normal

Many of us have experienced the same thing

Hard Starting

If it takes more than 10 secs of cranking I would let it sit for a minute or two and cycle the key off then on. Make sure you let the fuel pump prime and the gauges to set to normal before trying to start the bike everytime.

Ive got 3000KM on mine now and it still happens on the odd occasion
I just remembered, my dealer was very specific to make sure the throttle was entirely closed, and to not throttle while starting. Bet he's heard of this issue. I haven't actually had a problem starting the bike so far, but the bike is hot when it cranks a few extra times before catching, but not 20-40 seconds, that's horrible.

Ahh perfect. I didn't know the verbiage for it but they are experiencing the same thing. No one seems to have a solution but I think its considered normal? As this is my first bike I wonder if this happens across makes and models.
I know on the FZ09 forum the California guys were having a similar problem. Turns out it was related to the charcoal canister and disabling the associated items cured the problem. Had something to do with fuel vapors I believe. JMHO.
