Yamaha will be releasing its PES1 and PED1 electric motorcycles "in the near future." The two bikes are cool not only because they are electric, but also because they are really well styled.

The two bikes were first seen at the Tokyo Motor Show last fall. The PES1 -- passion, electric, street -- will "offer the operability expected by existing motorcycle fans" while delivering a "new riding experience." The bike reportedly weighs less than 220 pounds.

Then there is the PED1 -- passion, electric, dirt -- which will be even lighter at 188 pounds. Yamaha says it will fit in the back of an SUV and "expand the scope of electric vehicles to the off-road world."

Not much is known other than that. Web rumors say the bikes could arrive in 2016, but Yamaha hasn't confirmed that.

The answer would probably be yes for license. Would I buy one if it looks better lol. Have you guys watch the documentaries "Charge"? It's pretty neat I guess I just miss the exhaust sound....

There a lot of difference between a electric bike and an electric motorcycle lol.

they should make it so that you can mount your smartphone and use that as the cluster

since that thing basically looks like a cellphone

And even being able to plug you smartphone in and have it act as the cluster

If it happens one day I hope it doesn't just launch exclusively for iOS, but at least for Android as well

I think its cool how the part of this bike where the fuel tank would normally be is now just hollow. It looks cool, and shaves off plenty of weight. Pretty futuristic looking.

I can't help feeling that the name plus the black, blue and silver color scheme makes it look like it is made by Pepsi Co.
