Hello everyone,
Please correct me if anything I say here is wrong. I'm sure as a new rider I must be absolutely full of crap, and hopefully in a few years I'll be able to look back at my posts and cringe / laugh.
I recently bought a used 2016 R3 and have been enjoying it so far. The one thing that kind of annoys me, due to my commute having a lot of turns along with very short sections of highway, is that I often feel like I would rather open the throttle >= 1/4 turn rather than upshift (notably on the aforementioned short highway sections / when passing). However, I always have to regrip when that happens, and I'm not sure that's ideal. You can guess what happened next: I googled it and found people used those R6 throttles as a fix to this problem. Now, here's what I was wondering: as a new rider, is it a mod I should get ASAP, so that I learn how to ride the bike with the R6 throttle instead of relearning throttle control later down the road ? Or am I riding incorrectly, i.e. I really should be regripping or upshifting when I feel that I need to WOT ? Or is it normal that it happens, but it's ok for a new rider because the R6 throttle may be too twitchy for someone with... unproven throttle control ?
I've only been riding this bike for a week, and managed to nail rev matching from the get go, and I don't have trouble with tight turns / U-turns in first, but I admittedly sometimes find myself not managing to downshift from second to first before stopping, which is probably due to me taking too much time downshifting (I can press the shifter but it won't go down to first from second, which I suspect indicates that I'm too slow with my downshifts vs braking, probably because I spend more time with the clutch in than needed when downshifting). I also sometimes find myself to still be giving a tiny amount of throttle when I come to a stop... What I'm trying to say is, I'm still at the bottom of the learning curve so maybe a more twitchy throttle is the last thing I want and I don't even realise it (I'd imagine that it would complicate slow manoeuvres although I guess it's just a matter of applying more rear brake).
Thank you !
PS: When clutchless upshifting, which I am only learning for the sake of knowing how to do it, I generally have no trouble shifting once, but fail to do it a second time in a row. I slightly push up with my foot while rolling off the throttle and reopening it and repeat the process, but the second time it most often fails. Any idea why ?
PPS: Open to suggestions for chain maintenance products. I currently don't have any, and couldn't find any kind of consensus regarding tools and brands on Google. Although it doesn't rain much here in SoCal, I live on the coast which probably means faster rusting, unfortunately.
