Hey guys!

So I went ahead an order that lowering shock that is posted on here! And well... It fits like a charm!! We have to put some washers on the sides to hold it in place just at an extra precaution, but it lowered! I am 4 feet 11 inches maybe... ? and it has lowered it enough that I can get both feet on the ground.. I just have to lower the front so it'll be somewhat even. It sits fairly close to the tire so we are going to harden the preload again as a precaution but I bounce on it and it doesn't hit I am 140 lbs.. I will post pictures once I get a chance.. My cell died while I was doing it. Probably Saturday night or Sunday morning :) I will also post more information then as well.. Btw to do this you need someone else with you and a shorter kickstand :) but who cares my short ass can now fully touch ???

That was an excellent find, Krisen. Others on the site were waiting for something like this.

Here's the link again....

The first photo just shows the top of the shock where we inserted one washer on each side ...

The second photo shows at the bottom of the shop where we The second photo shows the bottom of the shop where we put 6 washers on the side the muffler is on and 5 on the other.
The bolts are a little hard to get off since they use lock tight.. Once you get the nuts off have some one lift up the back end of the bike which takes the weight off and it will be easier to push the bolt that goes through the shock out.

The last photo just shows that we took off the chain guard, the sidings, the seat, passenger seat and the little plastic thing which is under the rider seat.

Ope this helps! I get my kickstand done on Monday by Schwartz welding in Bloomingdale Ontario. Near Kitchener.

So the shocker in the photos is the one you bought from the link you posted and it went on hassle free?

Holy cow! Debbie Downer much Aufitt?

Anyway, I got this shock sitting here waiting to go in... Just have to round up the proper sized aluminum to machine some nice spacers then I'll give this a go.

Krisen,
Did you get the forks slid in the triple trees to level the bike out yet? I'd love to see a side shot with the bike sitting lower front and rear...Also maybe show us a pic of the modified kickstand when done!

Thanks,
Maven

Yes it's for a 02-03 chief and it went on easy just took the nuts off and popped the bolts out and had my boyfriend hold the end of the bike up and then I put the new shock in and put the washers on and then put it back together.

I sincerely hope you keep all the original parts and have someone qualified to return it to 100% original before selling , or letting anyone else ride it.

I won't be selling it I have no need to move up in anything and I will not let anyone else ride my bike other than my boyfriend and he his taller and heavier then I am and it drove fine for him. So thank you for your unnecessary comment but shove it up your ass!

Hey I havnt had a chance yet to level it but I did take it for a spin and found no difference in riding it with the front stock and the back lowered. Once I do though I will post a picture and once I get the kickstand done as well

Do you notice any difference in spring stiffness or dampening? Does it feel any better over bumps? I feel like the stock shock is too soft and underdamped. If this shock is an improvement, then it's another bonus.

I find that the shock has a bit more give to it compared to the original. I found the original to stiff, even when I fiddled with the preload. I have turned The new shocks preload to stiffen it as I found the setting it came on was to dampened. I guess it really depends on the individual and their preferences. I can't answer the bump question as I'm not entirely sure I didn't really pay attention to that, but I will. once I get my kickstand back I will take it out since the bike has a engine cut off thing :)

So I just installed mine and found I used as many as 15 washers because I used them at the top also. I adjusted the tension right up too. The other thing I noticed was that the chain got so tight that the wheel wouldn't turn so I adjusted that temporarily to release some tension until I can put the bike on the side stand again. How much did you get taken off of the side stand? It looks like an inch or inch & half is needed. Let us know.

I decided to cut the stand myself. This I worked out is very easy. I was initially going to cut the stand in half and cut a section out but on thinking about it I was concerned about the weld failing and how it would look rough where it was welded. So I saw on another forum where someone just cut the foot off as close to the foot as possible, cut the amount off the stand they needed and re-welded the foot back on. The foot is welded on anyway so no one would notice as much as if I had to weld it halfway up the shaft. This means the whole bike will have the weight back on the foot and wouldn't start to bend with the weight over time and would require the 'minimum' of black paint to cover the weld right at the bottom.
I'm gonna go do this in a minute, I have a cheap welder and some spray paint. Will post pictures soon.

I got my kickstand back on we took off about 1 1/2 inches and it sits amazing! In the picture it looks as if the back thing is touching the ground but it's not. I love it shorter because I had short legs I can actually kick it up easier. The guy I took it to did an amazing welding job he is in Bloomingdale, Ontario just beside Kitchener called Shwarts welding he is on the show rat rods. Names grant, he did a great job and it was only $20 which was nice!
