Hey guys how are you doing?

I've been thinking about getting a slip on without having to break my bank (I'd like to stay under $400)
What I want is a better / fatter sound from the bike, nothing crazy!
I think after my research, I've come to these two options:

- Hotbodies Racing MGP Carbon Fiber Slip On Exhaust Muffler For Yamaha R3 15-17
- Musarri Slip On GP Exhaust Pipe Muffler Yamaha YZF R3 2015 - 2017 Slip-on Black

I know that Akrapovic has some cheaper options but for some reason on the youtube videos it kind of sounds like a motocross bike to me, If I had the money I would go for the twin brothers!!
Any recommendations?
Maybe the Akrapovic does sound nice in person and the videos don't make any justice!

I'm open to other suggestions!

Thanks guys :)

Akaprovic or Graves are my personal picks. Anything with a cat delete is too much of a headache and you might as well go full exhaust at that point.

Kinda new to modding street bikes so just trying to understand and educate myself here...

So if we put on a new exhaust, the ECU should adjust accordingly if I understand correctly?

If that's the case, I'm curious what the advantage/purpose of something like the Dynojet Power Commander does for us? I heard from someone that if we change our exhaust system we need to install something like the Dynojet? Any truth to that? Thanks!
If you change the entire system (cat delete straight pipes and slip on muffler) than yes, you should get a power commander. Especially if you also went with a K&N air filter like I did, the combination of a complete exhaust change and an air filter that breathes better will draw much more air through the system. The ECU from the factory is set to run pretty lean which translates to hot in the engine and makes it much easier to burn an exhaust valve which is not fun and is expensive to replace. The power commander will "richen up" the fuel/air mix and give you a nice ride, a side benefit is that it will also smooth out the powerband making the bike more comfortable. The factory ECU can only compensate within set limits, which are not enough if you make all these changes.
Hope that's helpful.

I agree with most of this.... I would recommend a mail-in ECU flash, rather than a a PCV. I've put many PCV's, on many bikes. The PCV was great until a couple years ago when the ECU flash became more mainstream. Both my bikes were flashed by www.2wheeldynoworks.com within the last year. I doubt I'll ever buy another PCV from here on out-

Hey all. Been browsing this thread a while while doing some research on a slip on for my 2020 R3.

Anyone have any experience with slip ons for the 2020? I would imagine any that fit a 2019 would fit the 2020, but what about ones that say 2018? 2017?

I've been looking at the Akrapovic GP, but if there is a less expensive option out there I'd like to explore that too. I've seen a few on eBay (and even AliExpress), but I'm not really sure about those. They look good in the photos, but is the quality OK? I'm not so concerned about a performance jump, I just want it to be a little louder and to look a little better.

Something like this perhaps:

Any constructive criticism or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Pretty much any slip on will be louder - but it's the equivalent of just taking the rear muffler off. The catalytic converter does a lot of the muffling. I say just buy whatever you like for the look. A slip on does change the tone a bit, and depending on which one you get, will also lighten it a bit too but that's about it.

Thanks for the info! I went with the one pictured above after the seller got back to me and confirmed that it was still in stock (eBay had many color options for this one but said 'only 1 left', so I had to check!). I really like the look of this one and think it'll add a pop of color to my otherwise blacked out R3.

I appreciate your time!

There will be no performance bump but as Bluebird said, it will be louder.

You should go with a windscreen like this which would complement the colour of that exhaust!

The big two seem to be Akrapovic and LeoVince exhaust slip-on choices? Are they better in quality in any way from the rest? Hard to tell the sound difference by watching videos.
I agree! There's so many options. I was gonna gowith the Akrapovic, but after doing some browsing I wanted to go with something that wasn't bare metal. I found this cheapie on eBay and saw a person or two with this one, so I took my changes and went with one from overseas. This one.

Since my bike is 99% black, I wanted to add a pop of color. TBH I am a sucker for that kind of look on metal, so I figured I'd take my chances. Even coming from overseas, it arrived SUPER quick (about a week, I was expecting to wait a month or so), and after inspecting it, it seems that the welds are solid and it looks MUCH better than I expected!

Probably going to get these levers to match. We'll see!

These are good looking parts! Hopefully no issues with quality. For levers especially, I would consider going high quality, from a reputable brand. These are the controls after all. Key safety components.

The exhaust seems pretty decent. I'll keep my stock pipe just in case something goes wrong, but I don't see it happening! Good advice on the levers. It's definitely a roll of the dice when it comes to controls. A rider on the R3 FB group has these levers and swears by them. I'll check them out and tighten everything to spec!

Something like this perhaps: I have one like this (only mine is black) but is SC Project. I liked the sound of it when all I did was put this muffler on, when I deleted the cat and went with straight pipes I thought that the muffler was too loud. Personal preference.
